The New England Patriots can lock up home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs if they manage to beat the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. It’s the final week of the regular season, and while it’s safe to assume some teams will rest starters, it’s unclear what’s going to happen with the Patriots and Dolphins.
Patriots vs. Dolphins 2017 live stream: Time, TV schedule, and how to watch NFL Week 17 online
The Patriots and Dolphins both have something to fight for in Week 17 on Sunday.

Sunday’s game will kick off at 1 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on CBS in the United States. A live stream online will be available via an online subscription to Sunday Ticket, while CBS All-Access will also carry the game if you both subscribe to the service and have login credentials for a participating cable or satellite provider.
Both the Patriots and Dolphins have something to fight for on Sunday, though both have punched their tickets into the postseason.
The Patriots could lock up the top seed in the AFC, while the Dolphins could move from the sixth to fifth seed, if the Kansas City Chiefs lose to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. Although the Dolphins would still be a wild card team and have to play on the road, it would allow them to play the Houston Texans as opposed to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That’s actually an important distinction. The Steelers seem far more capable of playing above their seeding and going deep in the playoffs. Ben Roethlisberger is a more stable quarterback, he has more weapons to work with in both the passing and running game, and the Steelers are a more complete team.
So it would be huge if the Dolphins could beat the Patriots on Sunday. The Dolphins have won their last three games, and nine of their last eight, falling only to the Baltimore Ravens in that stretch. They own wins over some bad teams in that stretch, but beat the Buffalo Bills twice and, wouldn’t you know it, the Steelers to start the streak.
The Dolphins last played the Patriots when Tom Brady was still suspended. Jimmy Garoppolo was starting that game, and he was injured and gave way to rookie Jacoby Brissett. Garoppolo still threw three touchdowns while LeGarrette Blount ran for 123 yards. Brissett only needed to not lose the game, and he did that despite three Dolphins second-half touchdowns.
Ryan Tannehill threw for 387 yards and two touchdowns in that game, but he also had a pair of interceptions. But neither Tannehill nor Garoppolo will start that game. Instead it will be Brady and Matt Moore, who is taking over for the injured Tannehill.
In limited action, Moore has completed 31 of 53 passes (58.5 percent) for 516 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions. Moore has been much better than anticipated, but he’ll be dueling the best quarterback in the league in Brady. This season, Brady has completed 66.7 percent of his passes ofr 3,278 yards, 25 touchdowns and two interceptions.
