In the NFL’s latest attempt to make the Pro Bowl great (not “great again,” as it’s never been great), the league has added the Skills Showdown, featuring challenges that promise to be more fun than the actual game. This event will be televised on ESPN and can be streamed online at WatchESPN.
Pro Bowl Skills Showdown live stream: How to watch NFL’s latest All-Star event online
The NFL is trying to make Pro Bowl week a little more fun.

The showdown will include 10 representatives from the AFC and NFC, respectively. Jerome Bettis and Ray Lewis will captain the AFC side, while Tony Gonzalez and Charles Woodson lead the NFC team. The rosters are a diverse mix of quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and defensive players.
Here’s the complete list of challenges set to take place.
Epic Pro Bowl Dodgeball — Just what it sounds like. Professional football stars playing dodgeball!
Power Relay Challenge — A relay race featuring four players from each team. Expect the wide receivers and defensive backs to be heavily featured here.
Precision Passing — A passing contest with two players from each team, where the objective is to hit moving targets of different sizes. This is obviously a showcase for the quarterbacks, though we hope one team gets brave and gives an offensive lineman a shot.
Best Hands — Quarterbacks and wide receivers try to complete as many passes as they can. This is probably our best shot at seeing Drew Brees and Odell Beckham Jr. playing together outside of Madden save files.
WR Drone Drop — A drone flies high into the air and drops a ball for receivers to catch. This is real life.
The Pro Bowl game remains a tedious exercise, but at least the NFL is learning to not take it so seriously. The Skills Showdown seems like a good place for the league’s best players to cut loose and show off their personalities, something they’re not always allowed to do on the actual football field. This should be a fun way to kill a few hours on a lazy Thursday night.
