Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is now ‘butt kicker dot com,’ according to Andy Reid

Rookie Harrison Butker had a good night and now has an even better nickname.

Harrison Butker had a memorable NFL debut. The rookie connected on three of his four field-goal attempts in Monday night’s Chiefs game against Washington, including the game-winner from 43 yards out with just four seconds remaining on the clock.

His big-time effort even earned him a nickname from veteran coach Andy Reid: “butt kicker dot com.”

Reid’s delightful new name for his kicking specialist is a play off Butker’s Twitter handle, @ButtKicker87. The Georgia Tech product, who took over for an injured Cairo Santos, had only 9,800 followers as of publication time, but expect that number to grow after Reid’s post-Monday Night Football name-drop. Butker’s popularity soared early on Tuesday morning — at least in the Chiefs’ locker room.

Butker jumped to the NFL as a Panthers’ 2017 seventh-round draft pick after four years as Georgia Tech’s top kicker. After rocky sophomore and junior campaigns, he finished his college career with a 15-17 performance as a senior to put himself on the NFL radar. He couldn’t beat out Graham Gano for the team’s primary role, but he landed on Carolina’s practice squad after a perfect preseason (two field goals, four extra points).

Opportunity knocked when the Chiefs placed Santos on injured reserve. Coach Reid, looking for a new field-goal specialist, turned to the former Yellow Jacket. Butker signed with Kansas City on Sept. 26, just five days before his pro debut. While he started off shaky by pushing his first NFL field-goal attempt wide left from 46 yards, he recovered in time to push his new team to a prime-time victory.

Not a bad first game for the Chiefs’ new Butt Kicker. Dot com.
