Carson Wentz had started 20 NFL games in his career and never thrown for more than two touchdowns. On Sunday, he carved up the Cardinals for 121 passing yards and three TDs ... in the first quarter alone.
Carson Wentz sets career high with 3 passing TDs ... in one quarter
The second-year quarterback is carving up the Cardinals.

The second-year passer has the Eagles rolling at home. Strikes to Torrey Smith, Zach Ertz, and Trey Burton have given Philadelphia a 21-0 lead through the game’s first 15 minutes. It’s still early, but Wentz’s performance has earned him a perfect 158.3 passer rating through one quarter.
His 59-yard bomb to Smith also gave us one of the league’s top celebrations of 2017.
In the third quarter, Wentz add his fourth touchdown pass, a 72-yarder to a juking Nelson Agholor.
What this means for the Eagles: Philadelphia has a commanding lead on the Cardinals and only an epic collapse can keep them from improving to 4-1 on the season. That’ll be good enough to keep them atop the NFC East — and potentially gain a two-game lead over last year’s champions. The Cowboys face a stiff test against the Packers Sunday afternoon.
What this means for Carson Wentz: Wentz showed flashes of brilliance early as a rookie before opponents found ways to better prepare for him. With a career-best day still ahead of him, the young passer is making a statement; he’s one of the league’s top emerging quarterbacks, and his Eagles are a playoff threat.
