Brett Hundley didn’t impress after having a full week to prepare for his first NFL start. Can he fare any better after using the Packers’ bye week to prep for a primetime game against the Lions? We’ll find out when the NFC North rivals meet on Monday Night Football at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN (live stream).
Lions vs. Packers 2017: Start time, TV schedule for ‘Monday Night Football’
Can the Packers salvage their season in primetime?

Green Bay is 0-2 since losing Aaron Rodgers early in a Week 6 game against the Vikings, and another loss threatens to cast the former Super Bowl favorite with the rest of the NFC’s chaff. Detroit is in a similar position. At 3-4, the Lions have disappointed in their first season with the league’s highest-paid player starting at quarterback. While Matthew Stafford has been solid — if unspectacular — this fall, Detroit’s non-existent run game and subpar defense threaten to keep the club from the postseason.

Lions at Packers news:
- Martellus Bennett has been underwhelming for the Packers in 2017, a season that may be his last.
“After conversations with my family I’m pretty sure these next 8 games will be the conclusion of my NFL career,” Bennett said in an Instagram story post. “To everyone who has poured themselves and time into my life and career. These next games are for you. Thank you.”
- The key to Brett Hundley’s success Monday will be staying away from Darius Slay.
One of the most promising developments from Sunday’s game against the Steelers was Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay dominating his first matchup against All Pro receiver Antonio Brown. Although Brown finished with five catches for 70 yards, Slay completely shut down Brown when lined up over him:
- Nope, Mike McCarthy won’t be on the hot seat no matter how the 2017 season works out.
So maybe I wouldn’t say there even is a statute of limitations from last Super Bowl win, but a coach’s ability to continue winning regular season games. And that’s something McCarthy clearly does. I think for McCarthy to officially get fired, it would take someone like Aaron Rodgers voicing displeasure and back to back 7-9 seasons that don’t feature an injured Rodgers.
- Detroit gave Ziggy Ansah more snaps last Sunday, which could mean a rough night for Hundley on Monday.
Both Anthony Zettel and Ezekiel Ansah played a season-high percentage of snaps at 75 and 72 percent respectively. Both hadn’t played over 64 percent of snaps prior to this game. This is a good sign for Ansah’s health, but a bad one for Detroit’s depth at the position.
Will Aaron Jones and Ty Montgomery give Hundley the space he needs to succeed?
The Packers running game has traditionally been the weak point of the team’s offense under Aaron Rodgers, but head coach Mike McCarthy will need his tailbacks to step up Monday in order to keep pressure from his backup quarterback’s shoulders. Fortunately, the duo of rookie Aaron Jones and former wideout Ty Montgomery look up to the task. Together they’ve run for 532 yards on 122 carries -- and efficient 4.4 yards per touch -- to give the Green Bay offense a little extra diversity.
