With the AFC playoff race reaching its penultimate week, the Ravens can’t afford another loss in 2017. Fortunately for Baltimore, Week 16’s opponent is a 3-11 Colts team who has failed to beat quality opponents this fall.

The Colts have only beaten teams with bad quarterbacks this fall. Is Joe Flacco next?

Indianapolis’ three wins came over teams with eight wins between them — three of which can be attributed to the 49ers’ recent turnaround under quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The Colts have only found a way to outduel quarterbacks Brian Hoyer, DeShone Kizer, and Tom Savage this fall, leading to a disappointing three-win season that should give the Ravens hope. Joe Flacco has been awful this fall, but he’s still in a different league than those three replacement-level passers.
The showdown between these AFC rivals kicks off at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and will be broadcast on NFL Network (live stream).

Colts at Ravens news:
- NFL officials earned some headlines for measuring a first down with a folded-up piece of paper, but Ravens fans know that wasn’t the first time.
In 2013, the Browns went for a fourth-and-4 at the Ravens’ 39-yard line down 7-6 early in the fourth quarter (hard to imagine no one remembered a Browns-Ravens game!).
Brandon Weeden hit Jordan Cameron on a crossing route, but it was so close that referee Bill Vinovich used a piece of paper to see if the nose of the ball aligned with the marker.
- One reason for Indianapolis’s 2017 collapse? The fact that nine different starters are on injured reserve.
The Indianapolis Colts announced that starting center Ryan Kelly (concussion) and starting inside linebacker Jon Bostic (knee) have been placed on the injured reserve. They will join a group of players who nearly make up a full starting squad, if you throw out that they are sprinkled across the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
- Flacco looked awful earlier in the season. Has he turned that around?
When it comes to how I once felt about Flacco’s play this season, it’s one of those many times that I’ve been wrong. He has played some of his best football of this season in recent weeks.
He has gone 69-for-113, passing for 826 yards, five touchdowns, one interception and has rushed for a touchdown. He has also has averaged 275 yards, two touchdowns, less than one interception and 7.31 yards per attempt over a three-game span.
- The final two weeks of the 2017 season aren’t entirely meaningless for some Colts.
Multiple offensive linemen such as Jeremy Vujnovich and Mike Person who are some form of free agents this offseason, and guys like Denzelle Good and Le’Raven Clark and many others like them who are likely to find themselves expendable as well. Even guys getting a ton of snaps of late like Barkevious Mingo, Jeremiah George, Darius Butler and Chris Milton, just to name a few, could all be gone next season, or just as likely sitting in Indy on the sidelines.
Will 2017 go down as the worst season of Flacco’s career?
There’s no sugar-coating Flacco’s 2017 -- he’s been bad. The highly paid veteran has been downright Osweiler-ian this fall while leading the league’s 29th-ranked passing offense. A lack of reliable receiving targets hasn’t helped, but his 5.8 yards per attempt have made him the league’s least-efficient starting quarterback.
He’ll have the opportunity to bounce back against a Colts defense that’s been steadily mediocre against the pass. Flacco still has time to keep 2017 from being his worst season ever and can still rally his team through the playoffs. However, he’ll have to make some drastic changes to get there.
