The over/under for Super Bowl LI, which opened as the highest in NFL history, dropped 1.5 points on Sunday in advance of the big game. The line has fallen from 58 points to 56.5 for the battle between two of the league’s most explosive offenses.
Super Bowl 51 odds: What is the over/under for Patriots vs. Falcons?
The line dropped by more than a point Sunday as the big game approached.
The Super Bowl will feature two top quarterbacks when two-time NFL MVP Tom Brady and 2016 MVP Matt Ryan square off in the biggest game of the year. Ryan led his Falcons to a league-high 34.4 points per game this fall and has been even better in the postseason. He’s thrown for 730 yards, seven touchdowns, and zero interceptions through two playoff games.
Brady’s Patriots have been nearly as dangerous. New England’s 28.4 points per game ranked third in the league, and the veteran quarterback is coming off a season where he set an NFL mark for best touchdown-to-interception ratio after slinging 28 touchdown passes and throwing only a pair of picks.
An injury to Falcons center Alex Mack could be the cause for the sudden drop in the over/under. Mack has been a huge part of the team’s success in the running game, but will be playing on a broken fibula Sunday. That, paired with the Patriots top-ranked scoring defense, has been enough to send bettors flocking to the under, forcing sportsbooks to adjust their lines.
