When it became official that Marshawn Lynch would in fact join the Oakland Raiders, the question turned to whether Lynch would continue to wear No. 24 for his new team after donning it for years as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
Marshawn Lynch got permission from Charles Woodson to wear No. 24 for the Raiders

The number 24 is somewhat revered in Oakland. Defensive back Fred Williamson and safety Michael Huff have worn No. 24, but two team legends have also donned 24. One of those was Hall of Fame defensive back and longtime Raiders assistant Willie Brown, who has spent decades in Oakland as a player, coach, and administrator. In fact, Brown still holds a position as an executive with the team.
More recently, however, superstar defensive back Charles Woodson wore No. 24 in Oakland. After the likely Hall of Famer retired, no one on the team chose to wear that number last season.
Considering Woodson’s legacy, Lynch made the right move and consulted with the former Raider to see whether or not Woodson would be okay with Lynch wearing his old number. And per Michael Gehlken, Woodson approved the jersey assignment.
Lynch will wear No. 24 for the Raiders as Oakland looks to back up its first playoff appearance since 2002 with another successful season in 2017.
