The NFL begins its three-day draft event on Thursday, with the entire first round taking place in one night. Before the night’s festivities get underway, let’s go over the order of the first round.
NFL draft order 2017: Where each team picks in tonight’s 1st round
The Browns are on the clock when the draft begins at 8 p.m. ET.
The Cleveland Browns “earned” the honor of being the first team on the clock, following a 1-15 season. They also own the No. 12 pick, having acquired it from the Philadelphia Eagles in last year’s Carson Wentz trade. If the Browns don’t mess this up, those two picks should go a long way toward rebuilding the team from scratch.
After the Browns are the San Francisco 49ers, who are starting over after firing Chip Kelly, who went 2-14 in his only year as head coach. They also made a bold move at general manager, hiring former Fox Sports analyst John Lynch despite no front office experience. Rounding out the top five picks are the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans.
Aside from the Browns, the Titans and New Orleans Saints also have multiple draft picks. Tennessee got the No. 5 pick from the Los Angeles Rams, who traded it away to draft Jared Goff last year. The Saints sit at both No. 11 and No. 32 after getting the New England Patriots’ first-rounder in the Brandin Cooks swap.
The Rams, Patriots, and Minnesota Vikings (who traded their first-rounder for Sam Bradford last year) are the only teams without a first-round pick, although each of them could easily trade back into the round if the right offer comes up.
The draft begins at 8 p.m. ET and will be televised on both ESPN and NFL Network. Viewers can stream it online at WatchESPN.
