Final score: Seahawks 20, Vikings 13

The Seattle Seahawks made their home preseason debut and had a workmanlike win over the Minnesota Vikings, with the defense holding Sam Bradford and company in check all night.

Russell Wilson looked like he’s ready for the regular season, completing 13 of 18 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns. One of those scores went to Kasen Williams, who continues to enjoy a dominant preseason. Unfortunately, left tackle George Fant went down with a severe knee injury, which is a big loss to the Seahawks’ offensive line. Still, they’re 2-0 on the preseason and have a lot of positive notes to take away.

Fourth quarter

Seahawks 20, Vikings 13 (2:49)

Minnesota finally gets into the end zone right before the two-minute warning. Better late than never!

Seahawks 20, Vikings 6 (10:23)

Tedric Thompson picked off Taylor Heinicke, the Vikings’ third QB to play Friday. You can tell we’re deep into a preseason game when somebody named “Taylor Heinicke” is playing quarterback.

Third quarter

Seahawks 20, Vikings 6

A Vikings punt pinned the Seahawks at their own 2-yard line, but Mike Davis broke for a 38-yard run to give Seattle breathing room. The Seahawks eventually set up Walsh for another field goal, going up by 14 points.

Of course, Walsh couldn’t turn down an opportunity to throw some shade on his former team after making field goals.

Seahawks 17, Vikings 6 (9:55)

Another near-interception for Seattle, this time with Neiko Thorpe failing to make the catch. Both teams have their backups in by this point.

Seahawks 17, Vikings 6 (13:51)

Chris Carson, playing special teams, forced a Vikings fumble on the opening kickoff, giving the ball right back to the Seahawks.

Trevone Boykin took over for Wilson and had a rough first drive, taking two sacks and throwing an incompletion. Blair Walsh extended the lead with his second field goal of the night.

Halftime: Seahawks 14, Vikings 6

Second quarter

Seahawks 14, Vikings 6 (:09)

Sam Bradford’s night ends as Case Keenum enters the game. Bradford was efficient enough, completing 7 of 11 passes for 95 yards and not turning the ball over. Keenum did just enough to lead the Vikings on a field goal drive near the end of the first half.

Seahawks 14, Vikings 3 (1:57)

Kasen Williams almost had another highlight play, but a sure touchdown went right through his hands. Fortunately for Seattle, Chris Carson made a crucial first down on a swing pass, bailing out Wilson under pressure. Mike Davis entered at running back and scored the second touchdown of the game, a 22-yard catch-and-run.

Minnesota’s defense had no coverage on Davis, who ran in nearly untouched out of the flat.

Seahawks 7, Vikings 3 (8:27)

Bad injury situation for the Seahawks. Starting left tackle, George Fant, went down in gruesome fashion after getting his leg rolled up by center Justin Britt. He was carted off the field in an air cast as his teammates took a knee. It has the makings of a longterm injury, leaving Seattle thin at offensive line again. Rees Odhiambo took over at left tackle as Blair Walsh missed a 53-yard field goal.

Fant was ruled out with a knee injury, and will likely miss more time.

Seahawks 7, Vikings 3 (10:53)

Sherman briefly went into the injury tent after the missed interception, but he was back on the sidelines shortly afterwards. Doesn’t sound like anything Seahawks fans need to worry about. Clark was also back on the sidelines.

Vikings safety Jayron Kearse wasn’t as lucky, suffering a wrist injury and leaving the game.

Seahawks 7, Vikings 3 (13:29)

Richard Sherman nearly came up with an interception after tight coverage on Diggs, but the ball slipped through his arms. Minnesota punted instead.

Seahawks pass rusher Frank Clark left the game early with a hand injury.

First quarter

Seahawks 7, Vikings 3

Dalvin Cook closed out the first quarter with a pair of smooth, big gains. He’s up to five carries for 30 yards on the night.

Seahawks 7, Vikings 3 (1:23)

The Seahawks’ first-team offense came out for another drive, this time with Chris Carson replacing Lacy in the backfield.

Baldwin got Seattle across midfield with a 37-yard catch-and-run, but that’s as far as the drive got as the offensive line allowed a Wilson sack and forced the first punt of the game.

Seahawks 7, Vikings 3 (3:07)

Much like Philip Rivers did last week, Sam Bradford spent his first drive picking on rookie cornerback Shaq Griffin. He took advantage of busted coverage to hit Stefon Diggs for a 39-yard play down to the Seahawks’ 12-yard line. However, two false starts led to the drive stalling out and the Vikings settling for a field goal.

Seahawks 7, Vikings 0 (9:36)

Eddie Lacy got the start at running back with Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise both sitting out. He got the workhorse treatment on the Seahawks’ opening drive before Russell Wilson started feeding Doug Baldwin, who missed last week’s game with a minor foot injury.

Kasen Williams followed up his dominant performance against the Los Angeles Chargers with another circus catch, putting the Seahawks inside the red zone.

Williams finished the job with a 2-yard touchdown catch on a fade pass as the Seahawks drew first blood.

The last time the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings met in a game of consequence, it was the 2016 Wild Card round. While that playoff game is still a fresh memory, these teams faced each other in the preseason last year and will do so again on Friday night. The game will be televised on NFL Network and streaming online at Watch NFL Network.

The Seahawks are coming off a convincing 48-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers last Sunday. Trevone Boykin put on a show, completing 12 of 15 passes for 189 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. It was an important performance for Boykin, who’s trying to retain the backup quarterback job after Seattle signed Austin Davis in the offseason.

Seattle’s blowout win didn’t come without a price, though. Wide receiver Paul Richardson injured his shoulder making a diving catch in the first quarter. He was diagnosed with a sprained AC joint and will probably miss this week’s game, but Richardson might be ready in time for the regular season. Doug Baldwin is back at practice after picking up a minor foot injury, while Tyler Lockett is getting close to 100 percent after last year’s broken leg. Russell Wilson would get a huge boost with all three of those receivers healthy at the same time.

The Vikings’ preseason game wasn’t as comfortable, but they did enough to get a 17-10 win over the Buffalo Bills. The defense held Buffalo to just one touchdown and Dalvin Cook looked good in his preseason debut, recording 43 total yards on nine touches. The second-round rookie is currently anchoring the Vikings’ backfield with Latavius Murray recovering from offseason ankle surgery. Murray was activated from the PUP list last week and could see some action Friday night after he sat out the first preseason game.
