NFL scores 2017: Results, highlights, and news from Aug. 20
Two games are set to take place on Sunday. Follow along with all the scores and highlights here.

FINAL SCORE: Saints 13, Chargers 7
Two more sacks on Cardale Jones and then an interception to end the game kept the Chargers on the losing end once more.
Saints 13, Chargers 7: A field goal extends New Orleans’ lead.
Saints 10, Chargers 7: Dexter McCoil’s celebration after his pick-six was one of the best things about this game.
Saints 10, Chargers 7: Los Angeles did score, on a pick-six!
Saints 10, Chargers 0: It’s the end of the third quarter and no, we have no idea if the Chargers are ever going to score.
Saints 10, Chargers 0: The Saints have sacked the Chargers’ quarterbacks SIX times.
Halftime: The Saints carry a 10-point lead into the second half.
Saints 10, Chargers 0: The Chargers have managed to sack Chase Daniel twice, but they still trail by 10.
Saints 10, Chargers 0: What an acrobatic catch from Geremy Davis.
Saints 10, Chargers 0: The Saints defense has been relentless tonight. It is just preseason, but the pass rush and secondary look improved.
Saints 10, Chargers 0: New Orleans is still leading, but Chase Daniel got lit all the way up.
Saints 10, Chargers 0: A field goal extends New Orleans’ lead.
Saints 7, Chargers 0: Saints rookie running back Alvin Kamara took the first play from scrimmage 50 yards to the house with this nifty run:
Here are all of the highlights from the Falcons taking on the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
Final Score: Steelers 17, Falcons 13
Steelers 17, Falcons 13: IT’S A PICK-FEST!
Steelers 17, Falcons 13: Falcons fourth-string quarterback Alek Torgerson isn’t faring much better than Matt Simms.
Steelers 17, Falcons 13: Don’t look now, but the Falcons are blowing a lead. At least this time it’s just preseason.
Falcons 13, Steelers 10: Oh, dear. Things aren’t going well for Matt Simms.
Falcons 13, Steelers 10: But Matt Simms gave it right back to Pittsburgh.
Falcons 13, Steelers 10: What an interception by Falcons undrafted rookie Quincy Mauger. We’re gonna nickname him “Big Play Mauger.”
Falcons 13, Steelers 10: A few Falcons players got penciled in for roster cuts after the Steelers’ Trey Williams took this punt 64-yards for a touchdown.
Falcons 13, Steelers 3: The Steelers still trail by 10, but a beautiful special teams effort gives Pittsburgh’s defense a shot to stop the Falcons deep in Atlanta territory. And they did.
Halftime: The Falcons still have a 10-point lead, and the half ended on this blocked punt.
Falcons 13, Steelers 3: Falcons cornerback Damontae Kazee, a fifth-round pick for Atlanta in 2017, left the field with an what looked to be an ankle injury.
Falcons 13, Steelers 3: Matt Simms hit undrafted rookie Reggie Davis with a pretty pass for a 44-yard gain, which set up another Bryant field goal.
Falcons 10, Steelers 3: Pittsburgh is on the board with a field goal.
Falcons 10, Steelers 0: Third-string quarterback Matt Simms came in after both Matt Ryan and Matt Schaub were done for the day. Simms led a 13-play, 76-yard drive and Matt Bryant’s field goal is good. Apparently everyone who plays for the Falcons is named Matt.
Falcons 7, Steelers 0: Mohamed Sanu picked up a first down with this absolutely disrespectful stiff arm. Terron Ward capped off the drive with a score.
The second week of the NFL preseason is nearly complete, with just two more games scheduled on Sunday before the Monday night contest wraps things up. Depth charts are starting to round into shape as we reach the halfway mark of the exhibition season.
The first game on Sunday pits the Falcons against the Steelers. Atlanta will be sitting out Devonta Freeman, who was diagnosed with a concussion last week. Freeman should be cleared well in time for the regular season, but the team is smartly being cautious with him. The Falcons are coming off a 23-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins, in which the defense gave up a 99-yard touchdown pass that decided the game.
The Steelers defeated the New York Giants, 20-12, last week, thanks to touchdowns by Terrell Watson and Cobi Hamilton. Rookie linebacker T.J. Watt was the star of the show, racking up five tackles and two sacks in limited action. He’ll likely earn a starting job out of the gate if he keeps up this kind of performance.
In the late game, the Saints travel to StubHub Center to take on the Chargers, who are smarting a bit after a 48-17 blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week. Philip Rivers led the starting offense on a strong opening-drive touchdown, but the wheels quickly fell off when the backups entered. Kellen Clemens was dismal as the No. 2 quarterback, completing only 4 of 10 passes, throwing two interceptions, and losing a fumble. It would not be a surprise if Cardale Jones got more playing time this week.
The Saints couldn’t generate much offense in a 20-14 loss to the Cleveland Browns, but there were some positive notes from the game. Rookie running back Alvin Kamara did well as the starter, taking four carries for 35 yards while Adrian Peterson and Mark Ingram sat on the bench. However, the defense is already getting burned by injuries — cornerback Delvin Breaux is out with a broken fibula (after a misdiagnosis led to the Saints firing two doctors), while first-rounder Marshon Lattimore is dealing with a knee injury.
Both games are being televised on NFL Network and streaming online at Watch NFL Network.
