NFC Pro Bowl roster 2018: Russell Wilson, Drew Brees will play despite injury reshuffling

The team voted on by fans and the team actually playing in the game are rarely the same.

Every year, the Pro Bowl roster gets changed up after the fact. Injuries, Super Bowl participants, and other factors mean that alternate players make up a large portion of the game. As a result, the team voted on by fans and the team that actually takes the field are extremely different.

Things are no different for the NFC team this year. Carson Wentz got voted as the starting quarterback, but an ACL tear ended his season early. (Wentz’s replacement is Jared Goff.) Julio Jones, Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly, and Bobby Wagner are just a few big names to pull out as they recover from nagging injuries.

The Philadelphia Eagles made the Super Bowl, so their Pro Bowl selections (Zach Ertz, Lane Johnson, Brandon Brooks, Fletcher Cox, Malcolm Jenkins) are required to sit out the game.

Due to the injuries and Super Bowl participants, only 23 of the original Pro Bowl selections are still in the game. The running back position managed to stay intact, with Todd Gurley, Mark Ingram, and Alvin Kamara all set to suit up.

The Pro Bowl begins at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN and WatchESPN.
