The state of Arkansas could soon join the growing ranks of states that allow sports betting. On Tuesday, voters passed Issue 4, which requires casino gaming licenses be issued to casinos in four different counties. It passed by a sizable margin, 54.1 percent to 45.9 percent, with 99 percent of precincts reporting as of publishing.

This is of note to those following sports betting in America because the text of Issue 4 defines “casino gaming” as to include “wagers on sporting events.” There is work still to be done to implement sports betting in Arkansas. The measure states that the Arkansas Racing Commission will establish rules and regulations for all casino gaming. All casino gaming receipts will be subject to a 13 percent tax on the first $150,000,000 of net casino gaming receipts, and a 20 percent tax on net casino gaming receipts exceeding $150,000,001.
