After Rodney McLeod made an absurd stop on a third-and-2 to hold the Patriots to a fourth down, Stephen Gostkowski did something he doesn’t normally do — miss.
Stephen Gostkowski stutter steps before a FG miss that looked like a knuckleball
The whole play was a mess.

The Patriots were ready to kick a 26-yard field goal to try to make it a 9-6 game, and Gostkowski just didn’t have it after a missed placement by the holder:
The ball basically went underneath him, and it was just not going to happen from there:
Gostkowski has been one of the NFL’s best kickers over the years. Since joining the Patriots in 2006, he’s made 340 of his 388 attempts in the regular season.
This one wasn’t his fault, but there couldn’t be a worse time to have something go wrong. It’s not typical of a Brady-Belichick era team. They’re used to the clutch kicks from guys like Adam Vinatieri.
