Nick Foles almost retired, and everybody doubted his efforts to carry the Eagles to the Super Bowl after Carson Wentz got hurt. Then he had a moment in the Super Bowl where he showed up Tom Brady.
Nick Foles showed up Tom Brady in the Super Bowl ... at wide receiver
It was enough to get him Super Bowl MVP, knocking out everyone’s expectations of him.

Don’t get me wrong — Brady had the better game. Brady racked up 505 yards and three touchdowns through the air in a Super Bowl performance that won’t be remembered as it should. But for a moment, Foles had a moment where he did something that Brady tried, and couldn’t.
The Patriots set up this great play in which Brady was wide open for a catch, and he just wasn’t able to bring it in.
Later in the quarter, Foles caught his touchdown pass from a perfect throw by former Florida Gators quarterback Trey Burton.
It was an incredible moment during the game that everybody except Patriots fans could enjoy.
The whole discussion around Foles is going to be around how he made himself sooooooo much money! But it’s probably a lot more than that for Foles, considering what he’s gone through and the criticism he’s had to hear. It’s about pride.
Foles’ career was almost over after a flash in the pan season in 2013, and a horrific season with Jeff Fisher and the Rams. But Andy Reid saved him in Kansas City, and he did his part to win the Eagles their first Super Bowl after being signed this offseason.
His career is likely going to continue somewhere that’s not Philadelphia after this season. Whether or not that goes well for him really doesn’t matter — because he’s had his moment. It’s never going to get better than a Super Bowl MVP, and that’s fine.
He’ll always be able to say he did something that Brady couldn’t. Considering Brady’s the best quarterback to ever play the game, I think Foles can live with that.
