5 moments from Super Bowl 52 that Eagles fans will never forget

The Eagles and Patriots gave us a Super Bowl instant classic on Sunday. It featured a 505-yard performance by Tom Brady with three touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to top Nick Foles and the underdog Eagles.

Foles finished the game completing 28 of his 43 passes for 373 yards and three touchdowns. Former Patriot LeGarrette Blount ran the ball 14 times for 90 yards against his old team, and rookie Corey Clement had four receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown.

It was a game for the ages and one that we’ll talk about for years to come. These were the defining moments of Super Bowl 52 that won’t ever be forgotten in Philadelphia.

After both teams traded field goals to start the game, Alshon Jeffery gave us our first highlight with a leaping effort over Eric Rowe, who replaced Malcolm Butler at cornerback for the game.

This was the play of Jeffery’s career:

It was a telling start to the game for Jeffery, who finished with three catches for 73 yards, all in the first half.

But it was more telling in the sense that he predicted that the team he would be on would win the Super Bowl — and he was right.

There might not have been a play that was enjoyed more by those watching the game than Foles’ touchdown reception.

After Trey Burton got the football, he threw a perfect pass to Foles. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise, considering Burton played quarterback while at Florida:

It was more than just the touchdown reception, though. Foles’ catch came after the Patriots tried a similar play, and Brady was unable to make the grab:

It’s hard to say whether or not that was intentional, but either way, it certainly sent a message that the Eagles were here. It put them up 22-12, a lead that they would take into halftime.

We almost had some catch rule messiness in the Super Bowl, but referees did the right thing and let this score count.

Foles found Zach Ertz across the middle for the touchdown that would end up giving the Eagles a lead they wouldn’t lose, at 38-33.

The play was awfully similar to that of Jesse James’ from the Patriots’ game against the Steelers in Week 15. James’ touchdown was overturned, and the Patriots ended up winning.

While it was good for the Eagles that they scored, they left 2:21 on the clock, which seems like an eternity when Brady is on the other side.

Neither team up to this point had a sack in the game. After a completion to Rob Gronkowski, Brady would be sacked by Brandon Graham, with Derek Barnett recovering the football at New England’s 31-yard line:

The Eagles would get only a field goal out of the good field position and took up only a minute and four seconds of game time to make it a 41-33 game.

The Patriots had no timeouts, but again, Brady’s on the other side.

The Patriots almost went four straight downs to lose the game after starting on their own 9-yard line but were saved by a Brady pass to Danny Amendola that went for 13 yards on fourth-and-10.

After a few more plays, the Patriots had just nine seconds to go and went for the Hail Mary. After seemingly being in the air forever, the ball finally hit the ground and the Eagles won their first Super Bowl in franchise history:

There were 29 records that were either tied or broken in Super Bowl 52. Combine that with all of the offense we were treated to and just one punt, and it’s harder to ask for a better Super Bowl than that.
