Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin has found a new team, signing with the Oakland Raiders, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Doug Martin will try to bounce back with the Raiders. What does it mean for Marshawn Lynch?
Martin has had two incredible seasons in six years. Can he get back on track?

The news isn’t surprising after Jon Gruden was reportedly impressed with the free agent running back following a meeting last week.
Martin, 29, was released by the Buccaneers in advance of free agency following an up-and-down career with the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Martin played in just 11 games last season, rushing for a career-low 406 yards. Twice he has eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards in a season, and both times he did it, he also made it past 1,400 yards with a per-carry average of 4.6 and 4.9 yards, respectively.
Can Martin get a volatile career on track with Oakland?
Both of those 1,400-yard seasons were also the only full 16-game seasons he’s played in his six-year career. The first was his rookie season, when he carried the ball 319 times for 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns. The second was 2015, when he carried the ball 288 times for 1,402 yards and six touchdowns.
The other four seasons? Martin never broke 500 yards rushing, and has posted per-carry averages of a paltry 2.9 yards twice — in 2016 and 2017. He’s missed 28 games over the course of his career.
The 5’9 running back has been all over the place, and most recently, has looked slower, unable to break tackles consistently. He’s a power back, and in his productive seasons, few could bring him down or keep up with his vision choosing his lanes. But it’s unclear what the Raiders will be getting out of him.
What does it mean for Marshawn Lynch?
The Raiders could use the help running the ball, whether Lynch returns or not. The addition of Lynch provided a spark, at times, but the Raiders still finished No. 25 in rushing yards.
With Lynch due $6 million in 2018, Oakland may consider parting ways with the veteran to save salary cap space. The addition of Martin will only help that case, even if Gruden sounded excited to coach Beast Mode.
“One of the reasons that I’m excited to be with the Raiders is to join forces with Lynch, but we’ll see what happens,” Gruden said at the NFL Combine. “Obviously, we’ve got to take a look at our entire roster. But I’m counting on him. I’m counting on him being a big part of our football team.”
Even if Lynch returns, the Raiders were likely to add running back help anyway. Lynch, who turns 32 in April, could probably benefit from fewer carries in 2018. Expect to see Martin get plenty of chances, no matter who is on the depth chart.
