The Seattle Seahawks have decided to drop a bombshell on the NFL coaching cycle, removing head coach Pete Carroll. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Carroll will remain with the team, but not in the head coach capacity.

In a statement from Seahawks owner Jody Allen, Seattle said that Carroll will remain with the team as an advisor, but the head coach spot is open.
There’s an argument to be made that Carroll is the greatest coach in Seattle Seahawks history. He’s the leader in regular season and playoff wins, and helped guide the Seahawks to two Super Bowl appearances and one win in 2013.
Carroll, 72, also helped facilitate the trade of QB Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos while keeping the Seahawks competitive in the years that they were supposed to be rebuilding.
An early candidate to keep your eye on for this job is obviously Dallas Cowboys DC Dan Quinn. Quinn was defensive coordinator under Carroll in Seattle, and with Carroll in the front office, this could be the moment for Quinn to jump back to the head coaching ranks.
