DeMarvion Overshown suffers horrific injury as Cowboys season finds a way to get even worse

A horrific injury in Dallas.

It’s unquestionably been the worst Dallas Cowboys season in recent memory, and on Tuesday it only got worse. The team announced on Tuesday that linebacker DeMarvion Overshown tore his ACL, MCL and PCL in the team’s loss to the Bengals on Monday Night Football.

The timing and severity of the injury is so pronounced that it’s unclear if Overshown will be able to play in 2025, with a possible return to Dallas potentially not coming until the season after next. A lot will depend on how he rehabilitates, but an early-December injury of this severity makes a mid-season timetable the best case scenario, and even then it’s unclear if the team would want to risk pushing him to return too early.

Overshown has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise bleak year. The second-year linebacker emerged as the team’s best pass rusher after a season-ending injury to Micah Parsons. In a short period of time Overshown has been an elite playmaker as a pass rusher, with his run defense developing. Now he joined Parsons, and Dak Prescott on injured reserve, as Cowboys fans just want this whole season to be over.

This would be a crushing injury at the best of times, but it’s especially horrible in this case. Selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Overshown missed his entire rookie season with a torn ACL he sustained against the Seahawks in the team’s second preseason game a year ago. Now he’s set to miss more significant time with yet another knee injury.

Even the most die-hard Cowboys hater should feel for the team at this point.
