How much the world has changed since the Commanders last won a playoff game

It’s been a long, loooong time since Washington celebrated.

On Sunday the Washington Commanders achieved something that hadn’t happened in a long, long time: They actually won a playoff game. Ending the NFL’s longest drought, Jayden Daniels led his team to a thrilling last-second win on a doinked field goal attempt that happened to ricochet through the uprights.

It marked the first win since January 7, 2006 — when the team (then under a different nickname) hilariously also beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If you want to know how long ago that was please consider the following bullet points from that game:

  • Joe Gibbs was Washington’s coach
  • Jon Gruden was Tampa Bay’s coach
  • Mark Brunell and Chris Simms were the starting quarterbacks
  • Clinton Portis and Cadillac Williams were the running backs
  • The play of the game was the late, great Sean Taylor returning a fumble 51 yards for a touchdown

This is one of those sporting moments that’s like a time capsule, so let’s jump in the wayback machine to check out what life was life back when Washington won a playoff game prior to Sunday night.
