Gabe Davis has been cut by the Jaguars a year after he was supposed to help save their passing game.

Early on Wednesday morning, our own JP Acosta published a piece listing several NFL veterans who might see a reduction in playing time after selections their teams made in the 2025 NFL Draft. One of the players on the list? Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis.

Only a few hours later, Davis was out of a job.

The Jaguars announced on Wednesday morning that they had released Davis, who spent the 2024 season with Jacksonville after four years with the Buffalo Bills. Davis played in 10 games during the 2024 campaign, catching 20 passes for 239 yards, and scoring two touchdowns.

But the writing was on the wall for Davis in Jacksonville, thanks to moves the organization made in the offseason. Not only did the Jaguars add Dyami Brown in free agency, they traded up in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft for Colorado star Travis Hunter Jr. While Hunter can play both cornerback and wide receiver, Jacksonville indicated that the two-way standout will start on the offensive side of the ball.

Under former general manager Trent Baalke, the Jaguars signed Davis to a three-year deal worth up to $39 million. But it is a new era in Jacksonville.

As an aside, the other four players in JP’s article might want to keep putting the work in this offseason.
