The highly anticipated 50-yard sprinting showdown between Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles and NFL superstar Tyreek Hill is off.

At least for now.

After Lyles secured a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Summer Games, the two speedsters began poking each other, and that has yet to let up. Shortly after Lyles secured gold, Hill boasted that he could beat the gold medalist in a race:

The war of words continued from there. When Lyles won the 60-meter indoor title in February, he removed his race bib to reveal a scrawled message: “Tyreek Could Never.”

Hill recently posted a time of 10.15 seconds — a personal best — in the 100 meters at a meet in California. As you might expect, he flashed a “Noah Could Never” sign along the way:

However, speaking at the Stagwell Global Sport Beach event in Cannes, France on Monday Hill outlined that the event, which was to take place in Times Square this weekend, is off for what he called “personal reasons:”

“We were very deep into creating the event,” began Lyles. “In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend.

“Unfortunately, there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn’t come to pass, but we were full on. We were going to shut down New York’s Times Square and everything, it was going to be a lot of fun.”

Lyles has put together a rather quiet outdoor season to this point. After his win in the 60-meter at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in February, his only entry since was at the Tom Jones Memorial in April, where he was part of the 4x100 team and finished fifth in the 400.
