The Packers’ new uniforms accidentally make them look like their biggest rival

The Green Bay Packers’ new throwbacks will remind you of another franchise.

The Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears have the oldest rivalry in football. There’s a case to be made — and it has been made — that this is no longer a real rivalry because the Bears can’t beat their neighbors to the north. The Bears had not beaten the Packers since 2018 until they won the regular season finale this past season. Over the last 10 years, Chicago is 3-17 against Green Bay.

It feels like the entire NFL has been releasing throwback jerseys this week. The Pittsburgh Steelers released some stinky ones, the Los Angeles Chargers announced some perfect ones, and the Buffalo Bills are bringing it back to the ‘90s with some red helmets. The Packers entered the ring on Thursday with their own throwback announcement, and their uniforms ... look a lot like the Bears’.

The Packers are supposed to be green and yellow. It feels awfully strange to see Green Bay in blue and orange uniforms, which are typically reserved for the Bears. The Packers’ new alternate uniforms throw it back to 1923 and the days of leather helmets. It’s a cool concept, but it just looks too much like the Bears. Here’s a look at the Packers’ 2025 throwback look:

Okay, I’ll admit I’m a Bears fan, so I am incredibly biased against the Packers. They have had an elite QB for the vast majority of my lifetime, from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers, while the Bears still haven’t had a 4,000-yard passer. I should not be trusted to objectively evaluate anything Packers related, because they are the bane of my existence right after Jerry Reinsdorf.

If challenged to say one nice thing about the Packers, I will admit these helmets are awesome. Getting the leather helmet aesthetic on a modern helmet is a wonderful feat, and the Packers pulled it off.

I’ll also say these throwbacks are a huge upgrade over similar ones the the Packers wore a few years ago, which featured a big circle behind the numbers.

The picture on the right is objectively bad, and not just because it features the loathsome Rodgers.

The Steelers are wearing their yellow throwbacks against the Packers in Oct. this season. If the Packers wear these throwbacks in that game, it’s going to look like the Packers playing the Bears, only it’s Pittsburgh modeling Green Bay, and Green Bay modeling Chicago.

Hey, the helmets are cool. I’ll give the Packers that. And by the way, Caleb Williams is undefeated lifetime at Lambeau Field. Just a nice closing thought for you, Green Bay fans.
