With the No. 21 pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, the Calgary Flames have selected Mark Jankowski, a center from Stanstead of the Quebec Prep League. The 18-year-old was ranked No. 41 by TSN in their final top-60 draft rankings and was taken well above the spot in the hopes of developing the 6'3", 170-pound forward into a dominating center at the NHL level.
NHL Draft 2012: Calgary Flames Select Mark Jankowski With No. 21 Pick
The Flames acquired the No. 21 pick in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres in order to gain possession of the No. 42 selection in the second round.
Jankowski was a rising star this year as he wasn’t even on the scouting radar at the start of the 2011-12 season. An excellent skater with a long, efficient stride, Janikowski can skate with power as well as agility, which allows to him to take control of a given game.
He is a capable passer with puck skills that will dazzle and a shot that rivals any other player in the 2012 draft class.
