Kings defenseman Drew Doughty will miss at least seven days with an upper body injury, the team announced on Wednesday. Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times reports that it's likely a concussion. She also reported some details on how the team likely tested Doughty's symptoms.
Drew Doughty Out At Least Seven Days
A one-week rest is the waiting period prescribed for players who suffer blows to the head and afterward don’t pass certain cognitive tests. After a week, players are tested again and the results are compared with baseline tests they took when they were fit. If the results don’t match, they won’t be cleared to play.
Erik Cole, who delivered the first period hit on Doughty that caused the injury, was not punished by the NHL for the incident.
