According to a report by Buffalo’s WGRZ, Sabres owner Tom Golisano is expected to announce the sale of the team to Pennsylvania billionaire Terry Pegula in the week following the World Junior Championship, which is being held at Buffalo’s HSBC Arena.
Report: Sabres Sale To Terry Pegula To Be Announced Next Week
A source close to the situation tells 2 On Your Side’s Scott Brown that the sale of the Buffalo Sabres to Pennsylvania billionaire Terry Pegula is expected to be announced at some point after the World Juniors Championship wraps up next week.
We’re told the timing of the announcement is being dictated by Sabres owner Tom Golisano. Golisano doesn’t want an announcement regarding the sale of the team detracting attention from the tournament, which is a point of pride for the Sabres’ organization.
“2 On Your Side!” Gotta love those local news reports.
Pegula’s wife grew up in the Buffalo area, and Pegula’s financial investment in the sport of hockey in the last year is enough to prove that he’s committed to the game. He donated $88 million in September to the new construction of a hockey arena at Penn State University.
As a result, there’s no doubt that the NHL will approve the sale of the team to Pegula once it is announced.
