Jimmy Howard wasn’t the only prominent injury the Detroit Red Wings suffered on Friday night. The Central Division leaders also lost forward Tomas Holmstrom in the loss to Columbus. He suffered a broken hand and will miss up to a month.

As a result, the Wings have made two calls to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. Replacing Howard, who might only miss a game or two after taking a puck off the knee, will be 21-year-old Thomas McCollum. He becomes the fourth goalie to dress for the Red Wings this season thanks to injuries to Howard and regular backup Chris Osgood. McCollum will backup Joey MacDonald.
Tomas Tatar will ride in the car across Michigan with McCollum, as he’s set to replace Holmstrom in the lineup. Tater recently played five games with the Wings before being sent back down
