Claude Giroux is known as a dangler. He can turn suspecting defensemen into onlookers with his dazzlingly unfair moves, and he does it often. But he can also catch you when you’re not looking, either, and when Jeff Carter had the puck and all the attention of the Capitals defense below the goal line, Giroux was able to quietly and quickly sneak in the back door.
Capitals Vs. Flyers: Claude Giroux Scores To Give Flyers 2-0 Lead After Two
He slipped into the slot, Carter got the puck to him there, and the Flyers lone All-Star got the puck on net. Seymon Varlamov made the initial save, but a juicy rebound came to Giroux’s skate. He kicked it onto his stick and beat the Capitals goaltender to give his team a 2-0 lead.
That’s where we stand after two periods.
If the Capitals controlled most of the play in the first period, the Flyers stopped all that rather quickly. The Capitals kind of look like they’re giving up out there, ans as a result, Philadelphia is controlling the play and dominating time of possession.
The game is still within reach for Washington, but they’re going to have to beat Sergei Bobrovsky at least twice to get a point out of this one. The way this is going, that might not happen, because Bob looks great in the Philly nets.
