The Flyers are one of two teams without a shutout so far this season. The other? The basement-dwelling Toronto Maple Leafs. Sergei Bobrovsky thought he may have had a chance tonight, too, but after making the initial save on a Capitals scoring chance, the puck sat on the goal line where Mike Knuble, the former Flyer, was able to bang it home.
Capitals Vs. Flyers: Mike Knuble, Alex Ovechkin Score In Quick Succession To Tie Game
2-1 score. Loud boos from the Philadelphia crowd. They’d get louder.
On the next shift, Alex Ovechkin went unchecked on the door step of the goal while a wild frenzy took place in front of Bobrovsky. The puck got through to No. 8, who gloved it down. It hit a stick in front, perhaps off of his swatting action or maybe that of defenseman Braydon Coburn.
The officials went to the War Room to determine if Ovechkin had batted the puck in with his glove, but the call on the ice would stand. It’s 2-2 and the Capitals are, just like that, taking over the hockey game. Amazing what a few strong shifts will do, huh?
