When it was announced that Brandon Dubinsky was going to be out of the lineup for four weeks due to a fractured fibula, pundits were concerned about where all of Dubinsky’s offense was going to come from. Marion Gaborik showed that has can score the puck every now and then.
Marian Gaborik Finds Rangers Offense In 7-0 Win Against Toronto
Gaborik scored four goals against the Toronto Maple Leafs, two in the first period and two in the second period, bringing his goal total up to 15 goals. Against the Philadelphia Flyers, Gaborik was benched due to his lack of production and this four goal game is a proper response. This is the most goals Gaborik has scored in his career since scoring five against the Rangers in 2007.
While Gaborik was the star of the show, Artem Anisimov had a career night as well with four assists and Sean Avery had three assists. Henrik Lundqvist earned the shutout on 22 saves. This was Lundqvist’s seventh shutout of the season, tying him for the league lead with Tim Thomas.
Toronto just suffered from a terrible night and the biggest victim was Jonas Gustavsson. Gustavsson allowed six of the seven goals and was initially pulled at the 13:20 mark of the first period but was put back in net at the start of the second period. Jean Sebastien Giguere allowed one goal on three shots in his brief 6:40 of play. Giguere is scheduled to play against his former team Anaheim tomorrow night.
The Maple Leafs will have to look past this game and focus on the Anaheim Ducks Thursday night while the Rangers will play in Raleigh Thursday night as well.
