Carter Ashton gives the Canadians a 2-0 with 14 seconds left to go in the first period which could be the early nail in the coffin for the Russians if they don’t find the back of the net soon. Assists on the goal come from Louis Leblanc.
2011 WJC, Canada Vs. Russia: Carter Ashton Scores Late First Period Goal; Canada Leads 2-0
The Canadians finished the period outshooting the Russians 14-8 and overall look like the better team at the moment. This game feels eerily similar to the USA/Canada game in which we were saying that the Americans needed to find the net quickly and the Russians will need to do that as well if they are looking to keep themselves in the game.
Brayden Schenn needs one more point to tie a 34 year old Canadian record for most points in a tournament with 18 total. Schenn now has 10 assists and 7 goals on the tournament. Mark Visentin has been solid in net again stopping all 8 shots the Russians have sent his way.
