Brayden Schenn’s record tying goal gives Canada a 3-0 lead at the end of the second period. Schenn tied Dale McCourt for the Canadian record for total points in the junior tournament. Schenn’s goal was assisted by Marcus Foligno, his fourth point of the tournament.
2011 WJC, Canada Vs. Russia: Canada Finishes Second With 3-0 Lead
The Canadians have dominated the Russians offensively, outshooting them 29-17 through two periods and have already chased one Russian goaltender in Dmitri Shikin. Shikin allowed three goals on 18 shots and was replaced by Igor Bobkov who currently has not allowed a goal yet.
Three different Canadians have scored goals and overall seven different Canadians have contributed offensively in this game which shows the balanced scoring that the Canadians have seen throughout this tournament. They are also playing a fairly disciplined game, committing two penalties to the Russian’s four thus far.
The Russians do know how to make a comeback though in this tournament. They trailed Finland 3-1 with three minutes left and scored twice to tie the game up and eventually won it in overtime to get out of the quarterfinals.
