NHL Starting Goalies & TV Schedule, 10/13: Penguins Vs. Capitals, Canucks Vs. Wings

There’s actually a heavy schedule this Thursday night, the first weeknight of the young season with such a schedule, as 20 of the league’s 30 teams take the ice in 10 games around the NHL.

Highlighting the action in a nationally televised matchup on NHL Network are the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals, renewing pleasantries for the first time this season. But there are nine other games to keep an eye on too, and we have the starting goalies and the TV information for all of 'em. All times Eastern.

7 p.m., Kings at Devils. FS West, MSG Plus. It's Jonathan Quick vs. Martin Brodeur, as you'd expect, in this battle of West meets East. Looks like Kevin Westgarth and Scott Parse will be healthy scratches for the game, while Dustin Penner makes his season debut. The Devils will add a bit of size with both Cam Janssen and Rod Pelley hopping in the lineup for their season debuts.

7 p.m., Lightning at Islanders. Sun Sports Tampa, MSG. Dwayne Roloson will face off against his former team, which has the surprising Al Montoya making his third straight start for the Isles. Evgeni Nabokov serves as the backup with Rick DiPietro injured again.

7 p.m., Capitals at Penguins. NHL Network US, CSN Washington, Root Sports Pittsburgh. Tomas Vokoun is your Capitals starter for the evening. The team recalled Braden Holtby from Hershey prior to the game and he'll be on the bench. Marc-Andre Fleury is sick, making way for Brent Johnson's second start of the young season.

7:30 p.m., Avalanche at Senators. Altitude, Sportsnet East. Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson will make his first start against his old club since last season's trade to the Senators. Jean-Sebastien Giguere gets the nod for the Avs, his first game action with the club.

7:30 p.m., Flames at Canadiens. RDS, TSN Habs, Sportsnet Calgary. Miikka Kiprusoff will return to the ice for the game in Montreal after sitting on the bench against St. Louis on Monday. Carey Price goes for the Habs.

8 p.m., Canucks at Red Wings. Sportsnet Vancouver, FS Detroit. Roberto Luongo will be on the bench in the second half of this back-to-back for Vancouver, allowing Cory Schneider to go against the Red Wings for the first time in his career. No surprises on the other side with Jimmy Howard in goal for the home team.

8 p.m., Coyotes at Predators. FS Arizona, SportSouth. Pekka Rinne is in goal for Nashville against Jason Labarbera for the 'Yotes. Brian McGrattan, claimed off waivers on Tuesday by the Preds, will be in the lineup.

8 p.m., Oilers at Wild. Sportsnet West, FS Wisconsin, FS North. Niklas Backstrom has never lost -- not even in a shootout -- in 14 career decisions against the Oilers. He'll try to keep that going tonight against Nikolai Khabibulin, who makes his first start of the season for Edmonton.

8:30 p.m., Jets at Blackhawks. TSN, TSN Jets, CSN Chicago. Winnipeg hits the road for the first time since relocating from Atlanta, and they'll face a team that many of them are familiar with in the Chicago Blackhawks. Ondrej Pavelec gets the second start of the year for the Jets. Ray Emery will go in place of Corey Crawford.

8:30 p.m. Blues at Stars. FS Midwest, FS Southwest. Kari Lehtonen will be between the pipes for Dallas, head-to-head with Jaroslav Halak for St. Louis.
