Carolina Hurricanes winger Jeff Skinner scored the game-winner less than a minute after the Buffalo Sabres tied the game up in the third, giving his team the 4-3 victory on Friday night. With just 1:24 left on the clock and overtime looming, Skinner collected a pass from Jussi Jokinen and buried it for a power play goal that proved to be the winner.
Hurricanes Vs. Sabres Final Score: Late Power Play Goal Gives Carolina The Win, 4-3
Cam Ward saved 39 of the 42 shots he saw for the night, doing just enough to secure the win for the Hurricanes. Thomas Vanek beat Ward in the first period to open the scoring. After a Jay Harrison goal, Derek Roy added a second for the Sabres. But just seconds before the end of the period, Brandon Sutter tied the game up at two.
Tim Brent scored the only goal of the second period, finding the net as the Hurricanes played short-handed. In the final period, Drew Stafford tied it up with just over two minutes to go, only to see the Hurricanes pull back in front seconds later.
The loss was Buffalo’s first of the season as they fell to 2-1. Carolina improved to 2-2 on the year, getting back to .500 with the win.
