The two oldest rivals in the NHL opened the 2011 season against each other, and the Toronto Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer decided to make himself the story as he blanked the Canadiens to secure a 2-0 lead for his team.
Canadiens Vs. Maple Leafs Score: James Reimer Shuts Out Montreal For Leafs’ First Win
Reimer saved all 32 shots he faced against a pacified Habs attack, denying four shots apiece from Tomas Piekanec, Andrei Kostitsyn, and Michael Cammalieri. Dion Phaneuf scored a goal and assisted on Matthew Lombardi's goal for the Maple Leafs, who are in first place. Good for them. All that money's finally coming in handy!
In all seriousness, James Reimer looked like a star tonight. What’s more, Lombardi’s score was a masterful goal with the Habs on the power play, effectively sealing this win in the second period with the way Reimer was playing.
