Matinee hockey this Friday afternoon isn't really matinee hockey, considering the games are in prime time local over in Europe. But hey, it's a matinee affair for us, and that's all that really matters. Actually, if you're a Kings fan or a Ducks fan, you're experiencing some morning hockey at work this Friday. Enjoy that, because it's obviously pretty rare.
NHL Starting Goalies & TV Schedule, 10/7: Rangers/Kings, Ducks/Sabres
We have a full look at the schedule, including the non-afternoon games, plus starting goaltenders. All times Eastern.
1 p.m., Ducks at Sabres. TSN2, Prime Ticket, MSG Buffalo: Jonas Hiller is fully recovered from the vertigo issues he suffered last season, and he'll lead Teemu Selanne and the Anaheim Ducks into battle against Ryan Miller and the new-look Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo is considered the home team, but in Helsinki, expect most of the crowd to be rooting for Selanne's side.
1 p.m., Rangers at Kings. TSN, Versus, MSG: The Sean Avery-less New York Rangers are in Stockholm to battle the Kings in what amounts to a home game for Los Angeles. It'll be the first game for new Kings forwards Mike Richards and Simon Gagne, and the first regular season action for newly-rich Drew Doughty. As you'd expect, it's Henrik Lundqvist in goal for the Rangers against Jonathan Quick in goal for L.A.
7 p.m., Lightning at Hurricanes. Sun Sports, FS Carolinas: The Lightning, fresh off their run to the Eastern Conference Finals, begin their quest for a Southeast Division title against another divisional foe, the Carolina Hurricanes. Dwayne Roloson will be between the pipes for Tampa Bay against Cam Ward for the 'Canes.
7 p.m., Senators at Red Wings. RDS, Sportsnet East, FS Detroit: The Red Wings open their home schedule against an Eastern Conference foe, the Ottawa Senators. Jimmy Howard vs. Craig Anderson in the season opener for both clubs.
7 p.m., Predators at Blue Jackets. FS Tennessee, FS Ohio: Jeff Carter makes his home debut in Columbus while their other big offseason acquisition, James Wisniewski, serves the first game of his suspension.
