Capitals Vs. Hurricanes Final Score: Washington Dominates Final Two Periods In 5-1 Win

The Carolina Hurricanes struck first and scored the only goal of the first period, only to see the Washington Capitals completely dominated the final 40 minutes en route to a 5-1 win. Anthony Stewart’s goal just three minutes into the game was it for the Hurricanes, who were powerless to stop the Caps in the Friday night matchup.

The Capitals erased the Hurricanes’ lead early in the second period on a Jeff Halpern goal just over a minute in. One minute later, Washington had the lead as Troy Brouwer found the back of the net. It was a lead the Caps would never relinquish.

Washington poured it on in the final 20 minutes, scoring three times to turn a close game into a rout. John Carlson scored on a power play, with Cody Eakin and Nicklas Backstrom each adding insurance goals.
