Matthew Barnaby Pleads Guilty To DWI, Avoids Jail

Former ESPN NHL analyst Matthew Barnaby plead guilty to four violations that were connected to a DWI arrest. From the AP:

“I’m going to do my best, take the proper measures to make sure this does not happen again,” Barnaby said Tuesday evening, following an hour-long appearance in the town court in Clarence in suburban Buffalo. “I take full responsibility for everything that I’ve done.”

Barnaby avoided jail time by agreeing to a plea deal, as well as possible deportation. He was sentenced 100 hours of community service, alcohol abuse counseling, and $1,950 in fines. He also had his license revoked after refusing to do a field sobriety test.

On Dec. 5, Barnaby was arrested after police officers saw Barnaby in his car with visible damage on the front end and sparks emitting from it’s damaged front tire. A day after the incident, Barnaby was fired from his NHL analyst job at ESPN.

“I promise -- my kids, my family, my friends. I promise I’ll make them proud, this community proud,” he said to reporters outside the courthouse.
