With the victory, Winnipeg has asserted that they could play strong hockey against any team at home, having beaten teams like Boston, Washington, Philadelphia and now Minnesota, the latter still leading the NHL in points with 43. The Jets have also outscored opponents at home, 32-19. Still most of those games come down to playing physically and demanding strong goaltending from each netminder.

Malkin nearly added to the lead early in the second period, when his shot trickled through Howard and came to rest against the post. As Malkin dove and attempted to poke the puck into the open side of the net, Howard dove back and and made a stick save.
Pittsburgh almost took a lead early in the third period when Malkin beat Howard from the right circle, but his shot hit the far post and stayed out.
