VIDEO: Matt Cooke Takes Head Shot From John Carlson; No Suspension Coming

It's not often that Matt Cooke is in the news for a head shot after being the victim of one, but that's exactly the case this Friday morning. In his teams game against the Washington Capitals on Thursday night, Cooke was the recipient of a shot to the head from Caps defenseman John Carlson.

Thanks to The Pensblog for the video. It's hard to believe Carlson won't at least have a hearing for this one, as he clearly makes contract with and targets the head. After all, Rule 48 outlaws hits where the principal point of contact is the head, and unless Matt Cooke's anatomy is somehow different from the rest of us, the round thing above his shoulders is indeed his head.

But, alas, the NHL doesn’t even want to talk to Carlson. He won’t have a hearing on the hit, says Katie Carrera of the Washington Post. That’s extremely curious -- almost as curious as us defending Matt Cooke twice in a week.
