Kings Vs. Flyers: Jon Quick Makes 40 Saves As Los Angeles Blanks Philly

Jonathan Quick is good at this hockey thing, and as it turns out, a road trip that looked like it had the potential to kill the Los Angeles Kings is turning into some sort of resurrection. The Kings continued that trip with a 40 save performance from Quick as they beat the Eastern-leading Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 at Wells Fargo Center.

It’s just the latest big victory for Los Angeles, which now has points in the first six games of its season-long 10 game road trip. Anze Kopitar scored the lone goal in a game that was split pretty evenly. The Flyers hit a few posts and had several quality scoring chances but in the end, they just couldn’t put one in the net.

Broad Street Hockey blamed the power play.

The Flyers suck so badly on the power play -- seriously, not even able to gain zone, guys? -- that they could’ve spent the entire 60 minutes on the power play and nothing would’ve happened. Hell, when the Kings committed a too many man on the ice penalty followed by a Dustin Brown trip to give the Flyers a 5-on-3 advantage, they looked even more inept up two men than they did up one man.

That’s what it’s come to now with the power play. They look like they’re almost trying too hard, and as a result, they just keep getting worse. It’s bad. And ultimately, with 7:40 of total power play time today, it’s easy to say the lack of power play punch was the reason they lost tonight.

Philly heads to Tampa for a huge game on Tuesday night while Los Angeles travels to Columbus for a showdown with the Blue Jackets on Wednesday.
