It might go down as the shortest comeback in the history of sports. After just two games in the Colorado Avalanche lineup, Peter Forsberg has decided to hang up the skates. He’s retiring from the game of hockey. There will be a press conference at 2:30 p.m. local time at Pepsi Center in Denver.
Peter Forsberg To Retire After Two-Game NHL Comeback With Colorado Avalanche
There was no sign that this was coming after Forsberg played against Columbus and Nashville over the weekend. Coach Joe Sacco spoke about Forsberg’s return after the game against the Blue Jackets.
“Actually he played better than I expected him to. He was arguably our best player tonight,” said Colorado head coach Joe Sacco. “He kept his shifts short. He had good energy for the most part. He was playing well. I think it’s a real big step for Peter, certainly in the right direction. It doesn’t hide the fact that we still lost the game. I thought he was real good tonight.”
Forsberg didn’t score a goal in the two games he played and he finished a minus-4. We’ll know more at the press conference and we don’t want to put words in his mouth, so we’ll leave it there for now. Pretty shocking, to say the least.
