Ian White of the Carolina Hurricanes wasn’t on the ice at practice on Wednesday morning, leading to trade rumors that he’s on his way out of town. Chip Alexander at the News & Observer reported that he wasn’t at practice and that “something is in the works” with regards to a trade for the forward.
Ian White Trade Rumors Heat Up As Hurricanes Defenseman Skips Practice
White has played well this season for the Hurricanes, according to SB Nation’s Canes Country, but he hasn’t been “necessarily spectacular” in his own end. Considering his contract ends at the end of the current season, it would make sense for Carolina to deal him if something right came over the horizon.
So who is the other team here, since something is indeed “in the works”?
The Vancouver Canucks were rumored for much of the afternoon thanks to former player Brad May falsely saying so, but since Carolina is likely hoping for defense in return for White, it didn’t make much sense. Vancouver has dressed 12 defenseman this year thanks to injury. Canucks GM Mike Gillis has since shot those rumors down.
We’ll see where he ends up, but it does look like White’s time in Carolina is up.
