Capitals Vs. Sabres: Game Scoreless After First Despite Four Capitals Powerplays

The Buffalo Sabres must be grateful that the Washington Capitals aren’t very good on the powerplay. Or they must be grateful that their goaltender is playing really well at the moment. The Washington Capitals have had four powerplay chances in the first period, including one five on three opportunity, and the game is still scoreless in the first period.

Ryan Miller has made some incredible saves in the first period, stopping all 16 shots the Capitals have sent his way. The Capitals are outshooting the Sabres 16-8 for the most part due to all of the powerplay chances the Capitals have had. On the other end, Semyon Varlamov has made a few good saves of his own, stopping all eight shots.

This game will breakout offensively because both teams have dangerous offenses and dangerous offensive players. The question is which offense is going to break the ice.
