Red Wings Vs. Wild: Wild And Wings Skate To Scoreless First Period

The Red Wings and Wild are scoreless through the first period at the Xcel Energy Center on Sunday afternoon. In what was a fairly uneventful period, the Wings and Wild have a total of two penalty minutes combined and 21 combined shots on goal, the Wings lead 13-8. Even the teams aren’t hitting all that much with a total of 9 hits between the two teams.

Jimmy Howard and Niklas Backstrom have kept their shutouts entact thus far with Howard making eight saves and Backstrom making 13 saves. Dan Cleary leads the Red Wings with three shots on goal while Eric Nystrom and Pierre-Marc Bouchard each has two shots on goal for the Minnesota Wild. The Red Wings are also leading in the faceoff department going 13 for 20 in the first period.

Both teams are sound defensive teams and it could very well turn into a game where the first team scores will win the game.
