New York Islanders At The 2011 NHL Trade Deadline: Rumors, Needs And Expectations

The New York Islanders are one of those teams that's already been fairly active on the trade front this season. They've shipped out defenseman James Wisniewski for two draft picks and they traded goaltender Dwayne Roloson for a former first-round pick in Ty Wishart.

So, as the 2011 trade deadline approaches, could the Islanders be done moving already? The team has been much more respectable (don’t tell folks in Pittsburgh that) over the last few months and Garth Snow might want to keep much of the young team in place to see how they fare over the remainder of the NHL season.

Status: Seller

Needs: The Islanders are still a rebuilding organization, so draft picks and young prospects are of utmost importance.

Players On The Block: Radek Martinek ($1.5 million), Rob Schremp ($750,750), Doug Weight ($1.15 million)

Prediction: The Islanders won’t ship away half their team or anything, but Martinek can help a playoff team in need of a boost on the blueline. He’ll be one guy to go at this deadline in a year where defensemen are extremely valuable.
