The Pittsburgh Penguins are in the top ten in goals for/game in the NHL. On Monday night, they were shutout at the hands of Capitals Michael Neuvirth. Neuvirth made 39 saves in the shutout victory as Alexander Ovechkin scored the lone goal in the game on the powerplay in the second period.
Capitals Vs. Penguins: Ovechkin’s Powerplay Tally Only Goal Needed
Ovechkin’s goal came at the 16:38 mark of the second period on an one-timer shot from Marcus Johansson. Mike Knuble registered the other assist on the goal. The Penguins outshot the Capitals both early and late in the game, 18-7 in the first period and 14-3 in the third period. The total shots on goal was 39-24 in the favor of the Penguins.
Marc-Andre Fleury had 23 saves in the loss for the Penguins while Neuvirth made the above mentioned 39 saves. It is of note that Fleury played in the Blackhawks loss yesterday while Neuvirth had the day off yesterday.
