NHL Trade Rumors: Bryan McCabe Heading To The Rangers?

Bryan McCabe of the Florida Panthers is definitely on the trading block, and a new marriage with the New York Rangers would certainly make sense. According to Arthur Staple of Newsday on Twitter, McCabe has agreed to waive his no-trade clause only to go to the Rangers.

Here’s what SB Nation’s Blueshirt Banter has to say about the possibility:

If the Rangers can obtain McCabe at cost it will be a good move. He can certainly help the Rangers now and gives them a better chance at the playoffs. Matt Gilroy and a mid-round pick would be okay. Gilroy likely won’t be tendered a contract this summer so he would have been a free agent anyways. Anything more than that though and the Rangers overpaid.

McCabe, the captain of the Panthers, is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. He earns $5.75 million against the cap this year. If it’s true that he’s only willing to go to the Rangers, Glen Sather clearly has the upper hand in negotiations.

Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet also reported the rumor via Twitter, but he wasn’t all that happy with his, um, colleagues at TSN. For more on the Panthers, visit Litter Box Cats.
