The Calgary Flames have boosted themselves into playoff position, and no, that’s not a lie. Elsewhere, Phoenix recorded its second-straight shutout, Vancouver won again and Ottawa lost... again.

    Senators Vs. Canucks: Vancouver Holds Off Ottawa Threat En Route To Another Victory

    The Vancouver Canucks might never stop winning. Despite injuries coming from every direction, the Canucks won their sixth straight game last night, a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators. Mikael Samuelsson scored two on top of goals from Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows. Roberto Luongo made 31 saves in the win.

    And jeez, you talk about two teams going in opposite directions -- the Senators’ loss was their 10th straight. It wasn’t for lack of trying, though. Ottawa throughly controlled the first 20 minutes but were somewhat deflated when Burrows and Kesler quickly made it 2-0 in a span of just 1:50. The Sens kept at it, though, and despite falling to a 3-0 lead, they were eventually able to cut it down to 3-2.

    Oilers Vs. Predators: Devan Dubnyk Holds Nashville Back, Makes 37 Saves In First Shutout

    The rookie goaltender made 37 saves last night as he posted his first career NHL shutout to power Edmonton to a 4-0 win over the Predators. Nashville came out flying in the opening 10 minutes, putting all the pressure on the Oilers’ net in the form of 13 shots over the first 10 minutes. Edmonton had just one in that stretch.

    On the Forecheck, our Preds blog, wasn’t happy with the ability of the Nashville power play to capitalize on the atrocious, bottom-ranked penalty killing of the Oilers. You’ll have to give most of the credit to Dubnyk, though, who was just fantastic from start to finish.
