Another game, another controversial Matt Cooke hit.
Blue Jackets Vs. Penguins: Another Dirty Matt Cooke Hit Overshadows Columbus Win
It’s become the standard these days, and while the Columbus Blue Jackets did impressively beat the Pittsburgh Penguins by a 4-1 score last night, the focus this morning is on No. 25 for this hit on Fedor Tyutin.
Fortunately, Tyutin was fine and he was able to stay in the game. Unfortunately, Matt Cooke was also allowed to stay in the game, only suffering a five minute charging major and a five minute major for fighting after Columbus’ Derick Brassard challenged him for the hit.
And there you have the Pittsburgh announcers in the video defending Cooke. Not sure you can even find many Penguins fans who will defend Cooke this AM.
After the hit, the Blue Jackets padded their lead with two second period goals off the sticks of Pittsburgh native R.J. Umberger and Jakub Voracek. Tyler Kennedy brought the Penguins back within two with a power-play goal in the third, but an Antoine Vermette tally a few minutes later put the Pens away.
We’ll find out later today how long Cooke is put away for.
